Through direct donations and fundraising events, Odawa Casino contributed more than $41,000 to local charitable organizations and community events in 2016.
More than 25 local organizations benefitted from donations ranging from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars distributed throughout the year. These charitable donations are in addition to the revenue sharing payments to the state of Michigan and Emmet County by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians each year. In 2016, these payments totaled over $2.7 million to the state and $996,000 to the county.
"Odawa Casino employees and the organization understand the importance of giving back to the community by supporting local charities and community events," said Eric McLester, General Manager of Odawa Casino. "Our employees live and work in this community and we're happy partner with such a wide variety of worthy charities and exciting local events. We look forward to doing even more in 2017 and in the years to come."
The lion's share of Odawa Casino's charitable donations were the result of the Tree of Giving campaign in which Odawa Casino Employees and Patrons raised $17,609 in a single month to benefit the Little Traverse Bay Humane Society, Manna, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Brave Heart Estates. The total amount was split evenly between the four charities.
The balance of the year's donations went to a diverse set of recipients, including the Char-Em United Way, Habitat for Humanity, Mackinaw City Chamber of Commerce, Camp Daggett, the Village of Alanson Downtown Development, Beaver Island Music Festival, NCMC Foundation, Petoskey High School, the Top of Michigan Trails Council, Women's Resource Center, Michigan State Hog Rally, the Stars & Stripes Committee and the Jeffery Bodzick Scholarship Fund.
Owned and operated by the Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians, Odawa Casino Resort in Petoskey opened in June 2007 and features 1,000 slot machines, dozens of table games, a poker room, several restaurants, gift shop, a nightclub and a 137 room hotel. Odawa Casino Mackinaw opened in May 2016 and features 120 exciting multi-game electronic bingo terminals.
